In this sectionThe Clean Cooking Mapping Dashboard has been developed as an interactive database to visualise and analyse clean cooking initiatives in humanitarian and displacement contexts. It is populated with data collected through a survey circulated by the UNITAR-GPA Coordination Unit and NORCAP in the second half of 2024. The survey targeted over 50 organisations involved in the humanitarian energy sector in various capacities, with over 20 responses collected, and focused on clean cooking projects and initiatives starting in or after the year 2020, thus being limited to a more recent timeline.
This dashboard offers a comprehensive overview of projects for which a submission has been made. Entries in this dashboard span both projects with a sole focus on clean cooking access, as well as initiatives which cover clean cooking and other energy access areas, such as electricity access, access to energy for productive uses, or energy access for communal purposes. The dashboard provides stakeholders with valuable insights into the geographical distribution, challenges, solutions employed, and implementation strategies of various initiatives - enabling identification of trends, gaps, and opportunities within the sector.
Key features of the dashboard include:
- Project details: Users can access information on project objectives, activities, implementing organisations, target populations, funding sources, and project status, facilitating knowledge sharing and collaboration.
- Geospatial visualisation: Maps display the locations of the projects, allowing users to assess regional coverage and identify areas in need of intervention.
- Solutions insights: The dashboard categorises projects based on the deployed clean cooking technologies, such as LPG, electric stoves, or improved biomass cookstoves, paired with target business and delivery models for the clean cooking products or services.
Users can filter information based on specific criteria, such as country, implementing organisation(s), implementation status, type of displacement setting, or technology used, facilitating targeted analysis and decision-making.
The Clean Cooking Mapping Dashboard serves as a practical resource for policymakers, humanitarian and development organisations, donors, and researchers who are encouraged to utilise it to enhance collaboration, optimise resource allocation, and ultimately improve and accelerate the delivery of clean cooking solutions in displacement contexts. By offering a centralised platform for data on clean cooking initiatives in displacement settings, the dashboard supports informed decision-making and strategic planning.

The goal is to continue populating it with relevant initiatives as they come up, with the UNITAR-GPA and NORCAP team responsible for those additions and the overall dashboard maintenance. Everyone is encouraged to reach out with relevant new initiatives to ensure their timely inclusion in the dashboard. Please email us on energy@unitar.org or iwona.bisaga@unitar.org.
Based on the projects included in the Clean Cooking Mapping Dashboard and a supplementary literature review, the GPA, in collaboration with NORCAP has also published a knowledge brief titled “Clean Cooking in Humanitarian Settings: An Imperative to Act” here. The brief identifies key barriers to scaling clean cooking access and offers a series of recommendations for addressing these barriers through improved collaboration among stakeholders.
