This document is part of a series of policy briefs compiled by the multistakeholder SDG7 Technical Advisory Group (SDG7 TAG) in support of the review of SDG7 at the High-level Political Forum (HLPF) 2026. Convened by UN DESA, the SDG7 TAG brings together over 40 experts from governments, UN entities, international organisations, and other stakeholders.

The HLPF is the central United Nations platform for the global follow-up and review of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). More information on the SDG7 TAG, including previous editions of the annual SDG7 Policy Briefs, is available here.

Energy lies at the heart of both development and climate action, as recognised in the 2030 Agenda and the Paris Agreement. In today’s complex global context, it has become even more central to policy discussions.

As part of the upcoming review of SDG7 at HLPF2026, the SDG7 Technical Advisory Group has prepared new policy briefs highlighting key interlinkages, including with #SDG9 and SDG12, to support a just and inclusive #EnergyTransition.

As the GPA, we are pleased to launch our policy brief on interlinkages between SDG7 and SDG16, developed in collaboration with the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR), the Modern Energy Cooking Services (MECS) programme, and the International Organisation for Migration (IOM).
